March 19, 1999, 14:34 Author: WHiTe VaMPiRe Aeon Laboratories' researchers have discovered that ProMail v1.21 is, in fact, a trojan. ProMail is an advanced freeware mail program for Windows 95/98. It is spread through common distribution sources (shareware.com, et cetera) as proml121.zip. ProMail v1.21 supports multiable mail accounts; everytime a new account is created, it generates an "ini" file containing the user's full name, passwords, e-mail addresses, servers, and more. Before any action is taken, ProMail checks for a valid network connection, if found, it then sends all of the user's personal data, including the user's password in encrypted format. This is all sent to an account on NetAddress, a free e-mail provider. Apart from this "feature" this software is 100% operational.
