I created this application out of boredom and the
need to know winsock programming. I used most of the code out of the Netmanage
Internet Control Pack (now owned by NetmastersLLC). I still don't know
much about programming winsock but, I am studying and learning ;) more
apps in the future.
Since the creation of this program I have definetly
learned that any other winsock projects will be created with the Microsoft
Winsock Control (mswinsck.ocx) instead of the NM winsock (winsck.ocx).
Until the release of 7.02 of the NM package, it was virtually impossible
to distribute your application without a setup installation. You just couldn't
have all files required in a .zip and run it from there. Now with the 7.02
and some registry traces, you can distribute your NM Winsock with required
files.
The files for the server are as follows:
OCX.REG
NMOCOD.DLL
NMORENU.DLL
NMSCKN.DLL
WAVE.DLL <--
MUST be with Client and Server
WINSCK.OCX
WAVE.EXE <--
Audio Server
These files are included in a self extracting archive WavServ.exe (btw, those same files are probably going to be needed by the client.exe, exception: WAVE.EXE). Put the WavServ.exe in the Windows System (usually c:\windows\system) and spawn/execute it. After it executes, delete WavServ.exe
The WAVE.EXE and CLIENT.EXE both need to have the WAVE.DLL in the same directory, no exceptions.
Process spawn the wave.exe on the "host" and enter
the "host" IP in the call field, click on the dial button and in a few
seconds, you will hear any and all audio that goes through the sound card.
You might have to enter the registry keys remotely using BO.
I use the app to listen to one of my other computers
in another room, kind of like a "baby monitor". I am working on a Streaming
Video Server and Client for use with my remote video camera (to watch the
door from the cave). Not some cheasy web page server deal, but full streaming
video, just like Microsot Netmeeting.
I read 1984 and know about the telespeak big brother, don't be angry with me for watching too }:) No thought crimes here..
Oh yeah, one more thing, I have a web page at http://welcome.to/backorifice
I was wondering if I could get someone to host this web page for me. Xoom
has locked me out (third "free" provider that has kicked/locked my site)
and I have some updates and don't wanna deal with the "free" crap anymore.
If you have web space and would host it, email me [email protected]
